Arsenal’s defence is on the road to recovery, says Martin Keown topic

Arsene Wenger’s suspect Arsenal defence has a long way to go before it reaches the high standards set by their illustrious predecessors.

But Martin Keown , one of the Gunners Invincibles when they won the title in 2003-04 without losing a league match, believes his old club are on the way back.

The 45-year-old has seen the Emirates outfit make a shaky start to the season but believes the 1-0 Champions League win in Marseille on Wednesday is an indication the corner is finally being turned.

Following just one defeat in six games, Keown said: ‘The defending has improved in recent weeks and it’s easier to put things right when you are winning more than when you are losing and the centre of attention and criticism.

‘Sometimes the game is about an urgency to get the ball back. Arsenal did that against Marseille.’
