The image replaces the traditional Google logo with a simple design in the style of Blair’s famous illustrations, featuring a picture of the artist in the way she may well have drawn herself.

Mary Blair, born in Oklahoma on October 21 1911, contributed to a number of classic Disney films during the 1940s and 50s including Cinderella, Alice and Wonderland and Peter Pan.

She also created a number of large murals at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.

Blair, born Mary Robinson, married artist Lee Everett Blair in 1934 and six years later joined her husband as an animator at The Walt Disney Studios.

She was best known for her simplistic but hugely colourful style of drawing and has been credited as inspiring a generation of illustrators in bringing contemporary art into the world of animation.

Today’s Google Doodle comes just over a week after clay animator Arthur ‘Art’ Clokey was celebrated on what would have been his 90th birthday.
