X Factor fails Simon Cowell’s ’10% test’ as 13.5m viewers tune in again topic

The X Factor results show attracted the same peak audience as last week’s instalment – 13.5million – failing to meet the 10 per cent viewer increase that
Simon Cowell was reportedly hoping for.

X Factor ratings peaked at 13.5million during Sunday night’s results show, which saw Sami Brookes kicked off the show as Kitty Brucknell was saved.

While this represented a 45 per cent share of TV viewing and saw 3million more viewers than any other programme on TV, the figure will annoy Simon Cowell who is believed to be hoping for a 10 per cent increase in audiences from the programme week on week.

Cowell is thought to be fuming over the show’s loss of several million viewers, with The X Factor even being beaten by Strictly Come Dancing during Saturday nights’ live shows.

Sami Brookes become the sixth X Factor casualty on Sunday night – in a show which also saw Kelly Clarkson, Professor Green and Bruno Mars perform – and has since blamed mentor Louis Walsh for her exit.

Elsewhere on the schedule Downton Abbey continued to perform well for ITV, attracting 9.3million viewers, while 6.7million watched New Zealand’s All Blacks triumph over France in the Rugby World Cup Final.
